"A team are asking for new side impact tube design to be accepted for testing, outside of the homologation process..
Its the carbon fibre structures that extend sideways from the chassis, for side impact protection, but also dictate the shape of the front of the sidepod. It seems this team want a sidepod redesign, as theirs is inefficient. Its not McLaren nor Renault. Like any impact structure, these parts are homologated, they should'nt be changed and need FIA approval to do so, this permission is usually reserved for safety or reliability issues. If approved the new design needs to crash tested"
